1 Hotel Central Park styles itself as an 18-story urban retreat inspired by nature, located just a few short steps away from Central Park. Truly something a little different, the hotel is designed using reclaimed materials, it is – naturally – LEED Certified and carbon neutral, with an Audi e-tron house car for complimentary drop offs around town, filtered faucets for clean water and farm to table dining. The beauty of nature is evident everywhere at the eco-conscious luxury property from the three-story living green wall façade as you arrive, to copious leafy plants in every corner and living moss planters in the hallways. All the bed linens within the 229 guest rooms and suites are sustainably sourced, there are timers on the showers to remind guests gently to conserve water, yoga mats are supplied for in room workouts and any excess clothing can be left at the property to be donated to their local partner, Housing Works. Each guest room features custom furniture made by local craftsmen within a neutral palette accented by blues and greens – the colours of nature, padded window nooks perfectly designed for curling up with a book, Keetsa mattresses, recycled glass terrariums for an added green touch and Bamford Bath products. There are 22 suites ranging from the Alcove, the City and the Park Suites but the hotel’s unique product is the five-room, two bedroomed 1,200 square metre Greenhouse Suite overlooking the treetops of Central Park. Expect a Japanese soaking tubs; walk-in showers with dual showerheads; a media room with lit fabric coating ceilings; a living green wall of ferns and ivy and a reclaimed dining table seating up to eight people. Stocked with organic white and red wines and served by a valet, each booking includes a tree donation for NY’s Restoration Project with personal shamans available on request. 

When hunger bites, visit the farm to table menus of Chef Jonathan Waxman at Jams, with seasonal menus created in the open kitchen within an interior designed with exposed brick, reclaimed oak and greenery filled patio. The property makes a point of supporting local farmers and growers (showcased by a lobby farmstand) who use sustainable methods across New York, New Jersey and Ohio for the best of local produce. Their breads, bagels and chocolates are also sourced from local bakeries and producers who use ethically sourced cocoa beans. For relaxation, work out 24/7 in the state-of-the-art Field House gym with a wide range of equipment and free weights, with one on one personal trainers on request and a whole host of group fitness classes available. Whilst there is no spa on site, the hotel has partnered with HigherDose to offer premium in-room offerings such as the HigherDose Infrared Sauna Blanket for enhancing relaxation and promoting glowing skin and the HigherDose PEMF Mat, the ultimate recovery vehicle for reducing pain and increasing wellbeing.
