Rwandair 8/10

Flew Kigali-Doha (and onwards with Royal Air Maroc) afternoon 23th January 2025 on a B737-800. On time. Ticket issued by Qatar Airways which caused limitations on seating, food, and miles crediting as Rwandair cannot exhibit flexibility cum overrule the QR booking in any way. E.g. I could not preorder meal due to differing booking systems – typically a codeshare issue. Checked in 6 hours early to enjoy Dream lounge in Kigali. Check-in smooth, luggage checked in to final destination, though BPs could not be issued beyond Doha. Eventually I got my favourite exit seat. Could choose among the two lounges in Kigali: Dream and Pearl. Both are well stocked, only hot snacks are not offered any more. Dream has an upper hand with city view. Onboard, FAs are good, polite, well rested and groomed. Service impeccable. Only 1 meal service on this 5 hours’ flight. No WiFi nor personal IFE, only childish movies shown on shared monitors. Seats well bolstered, spacious. Fine “boutique” airline with only 15 aircrafts which are few in case of irregularities. Good trip, recommended.

Royal Air Maroc 9/10

Doha-Casablanca-Gambia on 24th Jan. 25. QR could not issue Boarding Passes though having issued ticket. Eventually, I got BPs printed out quickly while boarding in Doha. Embarked after being bussed around in Doha airport. Aircraft was a newer Dreamliner B787-900, filled to last seat. Was in the middle of a midsection in the back, surrounded by passengers all over. However, the seats are spacious and can recline 20 cm. I felt comfortable and slept quite well. Food was served on large trays and main course was very delicious (spicy seafood) with plenty of support like heavy salad, desert, cheese and chocolate. I could choose my favourite meal despite being on of the last being served. Got an extra portion on request. On this 9-hour night flight the two meal rounds were valued and sufficed. Drinks plenty, including Moroccan wines and beers. Staff, 90% are Moroccan males, are professional, hardworking, focused, and pragmatic. They may appear being blunt but on firm requests they act well. They relocate seats up to last Minute and beyond to accommodate passengers wishes, allowing couples and families to sit together. Amenity kit, hear-sets, pillows, blankets provided to all. IFA promised a lot with big screens and options. However, it was not working properly for approx. half of the cabin, it froze again and again or ran into endless loops.

In Casablanca, RAM kept their announced promises of providing a smooth STPC: hotel, meals and transport for long-hours transit passenger. Passed immigration without hurdles. I was put up in the fine 3-4 star Zenith hotel and got two meals within a 12 hours stay. Back to airport, accessed the RAMs Zenith Lounge which is spacious, fine: sufficient catering and tarmac views in two floors. Upper floor has a manned bar, while the lower have barista and meal catering. Lively and exotic, a surprisingly good lounge, including local wines of fair quality.

Last leg, Casablanca to Banjul on a B737-800 was also a pleasure. Wide spaced seats, I was given my preselected exit seat without charges. Good, hot meal provided with three options. FAs were professional, all males. Catered well for, appreciated their seafood and wines. Recall, this is only a 3 hours’ flight with an impressive fully serviced catering with drink-rounds. Generous airline providing at least 2 x 23 kg luggage allowance for everyone Luggage’s arrived quickly and in good condition at final destination. Only minor spots: IFE unreliability and bus-gating in DOH and CMN. These are easily outweighed by other perks the airline provides. Ticket not expensive. First time with RAM, pleasantly surprised, can’t really fault them; fully recommended.
