1. Rwandair Economy 7/10
Flew KGL-NBO on 14/6-19 on a well maintained B737-700. The ticket was reissued by Kenya Airways several weeks in advance due to a cancelled flight further ahead in my itinerary. They changed the flight to WB for smoother connection. Unfortunately, this night-flight (departing 1 min. after midnight) had an annoying stop-over in BJM at 1:30 a.m. where one has remain on the plane. The stop was suddenly changed to be in in EBB instead of BJM at the time of check-in. This happened without any reasoning or clear information. It extends the duration by 2-3 hours and deprived me of any decent sleep. This is not professional and can have implications for a number of passengers. Check-In online worked out. Thus, I entered airport and accessed the transit easily. Onboard, drinks offered inc. acceptable wines. Fabricated, useless snack provided on 1st leg while on 2nd leg a cold sandwich was given. Seafood meal (sandwich) requested and given. Flight on time. FAs were plenty and kind and caring. Airline appears to be fairly professional but could need more internationally exposed FAs. No IFE. Granted mileage for their FFP program, Dream Miles. Codeshare with KQ for onward travel.
2. Kenya Airways Economy 6/10
Flew NBO-ADD on an early morning flight KQ400 on 14/6-19. Delayed in NBO 1.5 hour due to technical issues with the aircraft (an old B737-800). On board eventless, and FAs were in good mood. Aircraft 80% full (?). Drinks fine. Inedible baked snack served. Special meals not provided. Trip was rescheduled by KQ due to a long term announced cancellation of a leg, which became complicated as I had 6 legs on my entire journey. However, rebooking by KQ was handled well and they gave 2 options. Bus gating in ADD. No IFE. OK trip but not more.
3. Emirates 08/10
ADD-DXB-BKK on 14th June 2019 on B777-300ER and A380, respectively. First Flight good and hardware good but food was a completely let down. I tried my special meal (acknowledge!) and all the other three menu dishes announced. All were absolutely substandard and not edible and I am not difficult and usually eat the dogs leftovers. But his was horrible and hazardous. Food in economy was edible and better than business. There was a cheese plate that helped me to avoid to starve. No icecreams and no inspirational additionals. Rate 6/10
Dubai-Bangkok was a great experience - as good as it gets on an airplane. A380 must be the king of the skies. Likely of my best flight ever, despite I had not slept the night before. I doubt that a general 1st class experience can beat this luxurious bz-class experience by Emirates on the A380. Simply outstanding on seat “hut”, meals, drinks. The onboard Sky Bar is a solid social effort and gimmick that is impressive and hard to dislike. I like the outer seats in the 1-2-1 biz-configuration with lots of space and great window access. The sports car design works well for me and the WiFi is solid and a bonus. Special meal was sophisticated and made to perfection. Rate 10/10
Lounge provided in Addis is the Ethiopian Cloud Nine Lounge which is slightly better than their Gold lounge. Seems this lounge is improving due to Emirates as they now serve the same champagne available on board.
4. Bangkok Airways. Economy 9/10
Travelled BKK to DAD 15th June 2019 on an A320. On time as usual. Changed initial ticket and preponed departure due to earlier international arrival. This proved to be easy without any hassle apart from some emails and a modest addition. If I change online the cost is horrendous. However, their helpdesk is fairly smooth and I could leave on an earlier flight for 49 USD which was OK. Got my BP in transit in BKK without any hassle. Free access to their (dry) lounge. Service on board is top notch for economy. Special meal provided, It was very delicious. Steel cutlery and wet towel. 2 drink rounds. Neat plane, fresh FA staff. I cant see how economy class can get any better apart from tedious bus-gating in Bangkok. There is no IFE.
