Endnu et eventyr med lav- og højdepunkter. Havde 3 billetter (5 ben, hvoraf de 4 var 2 married segments) med hvs. VJ, CX, og KQ. VJ viste sig at være præcis, CX skuffede med et ødelæggende delay, men KQ samlede op og reddede mig fra en katastrofe i Dubai, hvor gode råd var dyre og der var ingen ledige pladser 1-2 dage frem. Igår sled jeg det meste af dagen i The Bridge i HKG med at redde resten af min tur, idet CX havde totalt spoleret mit itinerary og jeg kunne ikke komme videre fra Dubai da min KQ billet automatisk ville blive annulleret (no refund-no change). Men imorges da jeg ankom til Dubai lykkedes alting fordi KQ ventede paa mig, undlod at annulere min billet, undlod penalties af enhver art (e.g. No-show), lod mig rejse på en anden senere afgang end angivet, lod mig beholde min upgradering (betalte 195 USD få dage forinden), og lod mig beholde returdelen af billetten intact. Uden at betale nogetsomhelst ekstra. En kæmpegave. Gaven forstørredes af, at jeg fik flyve i en B787 i st. f. B737 som equipment downgrade havde indikeret hvis jeg havde nået min oprindelige afgang. Sender en tak til country station manager i Dubai – de svarede hurtigt tilbage igår på en desperat email fra mig og ville gøre deres bedste for at faa mig frem...ligesom i gamle dage fra før verden var af lave...

1. VietjetAir Economy 7/10
Travelled Hue to SGN on 29/6 2019 on their morning flight, a newer, well maintained, clean A320 leased from a company called Flyone.com (according to the aircrafts livery). I had a tight international connection 2 hours later from another Terminal in SGN and had been anxious for months where I could make it as VJ have many delays. However, I studied a lot on their delay statistics for this route: delays are recently rare and mostly not serious. Thus I took the chance instead of going to SGN a day earlier. The trip was on tine and VJ were very generous with my bulky luggage and handluggage. Arrived before ETA time, but suitcases took 230 Minutes to arrive. Onboard fresh international staff, good care, and nice supply of drinks foods, etc, for modest prices. A mango juice was 20,000 VND. At arrival only disembarking from 1 door. Bus-gating from aircraft is annoying and lack of IFE deducts 2/10. Fear of delay deducts 2/10. Price good; adds 1/10. Total score 7/10. This flight isolated seed could be given 8, but my experience with this airline depraves them an extra point to 7, only. Will fly again. Trust their punctuality on morning flights.
2. Cathay Pacific Business Class 5/10
Travelled SGN-HKG-DXB on 29 June 2019 on B777-300 and B330-300 respectively. Smooth check-in with 3 business class counters open. My luggage got checked in to the next 4 legs (including on another ticket with Kenya Airways). Nice. Priority lane for security and lounge in Le Saigonnais (was given 2 choices) were fine. First flight delayed from SGN. An early announced 1 hour delay ended up to be 2 hours made me miss my HKG-connection by 2 hours. That caused me to miss my connection in HKG where staff waited for me tried to rebook and examined a lot of option. Next CX flight to DXB kicked off only 10 hours later and made me lose my onward tickets (2 legs). A lot of courtesy, assistance, and sympathy was received in HKG due to the delay but the results and outcome eventually became nil as they regretted early promised options of sending me onwards via Jo-burg or with Emirates to Dubai. Suffered many hours in desperation trying to sort out my further connections from their Bridge Lounge. First flight worldclass cuisine and caring. Business class full.. Second flight so, so – dinner hardly edible. Both flights: FAs are active, caring, and truly professional. Beer choices are a disaster and limited to mass produced industrial stuff (Heineken, Carlsberg, Foster, and San Miguel). No WiFi; good IFE. Clean aircrafts. Good lounges in HKG. Delay unacceptable and delay handling unsatisfactory: was denied to see the manager as the staff would not allow. They pay lipservice, a lot of lipservice, but significant results, actions, or willingness to pay for any additional routing are not to be seen. They let down passengers by eventually being stingy: nothing must cost them anything additional. Not a true business class experience. The airline falls behind what I expected. Wonder how they treat economy class passengers during irregularities? I can mention 10 airlines that supersede CX with a better biz-class product. It seems at least that they had a bad day.
3. Kenya Airways Business 9/10
Travelled DXB-NBO-KGL on 30th June 2019 on B787-800 and E190, respectively. My ticket was in economy and very cheap. I bid for an upgrade for the 1st leg and it was accepted 2 days before and they reissued ticket. However, due to serious delays by Cathay Pacific entering Dubai (from Saigon and Hongkong), I realised almost a day before that I would not be able to make my trip from DXB. I cancelled my online check-in’s to avoid No Show, but had to forfeit upgrade and tickets according to fare rules. However, KQ, and in particular the Station Manager in DXB, went the extra mile to still get me on board on the following flight 5 hours later on the same day. This, without reissuing tickets (which were non refundable), without charging me for No Show, without loosing my upgrade, just out of courtesy, empathy and a well explained case from my side. At gate in DXB, I was the last person (had only 40 Minutes for transfer, so got a good morning run!), but KQ issued all my BPs in 2 Minutes during last call. Onboard, spacious cabin, got seat 2C in a nice 2 x 2 x 2 configuration. Flight full except a few seats in business. Good food and kind, attentive FAs. A decent airline respecting classic values and handles “ground situations” or irregularities well. Not the first time they have done small miracles for me. In NBO, I was kindly invited to the KQ Pride lounge that Skyteam uses. Just a courtesy due to my endured inconveniences. Last leg on economy class on an E190, I love this aircraft. Dinner and drinks served in a good atmosphere due to fresh FAs. Well done, KQ, outstanding service: I owe you for this one! And my home-travel is still valid. What more could you have done? I cant see it.
