Hvorfor rejse kun 2 ben til Afrika, naar man kan rejse 6? Med status overalt bliver livet meget lettere og sjovere - selv paa billige economy billetter. 50 timers fest i stedet for 1/2 dags rush...

Rejste til Kigali efter sommerferie i Skandinavien. Det blev lidt sik-sak paa de 6 ben. Ruten var paavirket af anslutning til ZRH og anslutning fra JNB. Det skyldes en promotional, halv-pris, KQ billet fra ZRH til JNB. Status hos alle selskaber gav adgang til 7 lounger undervejs. De bedste (catering, shower, og udsigt over banerne) var Skyteam loungen i Paris og den dejlige Bidvest lounge i JNB. Middelgode var de store, rummelige lounges paa AMS og NBO, mens de relativt ringste var de 3 i Zurich og Koebenhavn...CPH mangler en Pontus!

Anslutningsbillet til ZRH blev den billigste Ultra Saver Light med KLM. Da jeg har Platinum fik jeg alligevel bagagen med. Billetten kostede 799 DKK, men gav miles og XPs. Jeg overnattede paa en baenk udenfor Crown Lounge 25 i AMS til de aabnede kl. 05 saa jeg kunne komme ind og bade foer morgenmaden. Loungens store mangel er at den er lukket hele natten, hvorfor har de fleste europæiske lufthavne lukket hele natten i stedet for 24/7 som i Asien, Afrika, Amerika, SØ-asien? Daarlig service! Derudover, I Amsterdam stigmatiseres rygere...

Billetten JNB-KGL var den billigst mulige economy (Rwandair, 276 eur/retur med 2 x 23 kg bagage). Jeg opgraderede til Business class med 11250 Dream Miles. Alle fly gik til tiden og bagagen opfoerte sig som den skulle. Imponerende at KL/AF i CPH tillod mig at checke baggagen ind hele vejen (6 ben, 3 billette, 4 selskaber). Alligevel spottede jeg fra vinduet min bagage under lastning i Zurich: Lynlaasen var gaaet totalt i stykker og kufferten var havlaaben. Men den blev alligevel, efter nogen diskussion mellem kuffertdrengene udenfor, lastet, selv om den skreg paa tape. Saa i Paris maatte jeg ud og slaas for at faa den hevet ud af transit og lappet. AF matchede min id med flid, og gav mig den mest lukserioese kuffert (i erstatning) som jeg nogensinde her ejet: anslaaet vaerdi 600 eur, med AF logo smukt indgraveret...Men det stjal desvaerre 3-4 timer af min loungetid...skulle jo noedigt misse champagnerounds i AF loungerne mellem kl. 17-19...

Jeg lærte, at Skyteam samarbejdet fungerer fortrinligt. AF/KL indcheckning i CPH har oppet sig, fasttrack m.v. fungerer. Frit loungevalg mellem Carlsberg og Apartment loungerne. Skyteam loungerne i ZRH er underloedige, AF er flyttet fra KLM loungen og har nu forsoegt sig i den kedelige, uinspirerende Aspire Lounge over for....det gaar bare ikke...

KLM Economy 8/10​

CPH-AMS-ZRH on 22-23 August 2024 on B737-8 and E295, respectively. Ticket was cheap and easily done, but I had to sleep over in AMS airport to catch my morning flight ab AMS. Arrived in CPH airport early, the KLM ground staff were gorgeous and offered me options on luggage: Upon discussions, they allowed me to check in luggage all the way to Rwanda despite having a complicated routing of six legs traveling (3 airlines; 3 different tickets). The long journey ahead went smooth, nicely done by KLM. As I have FFP status they gave me Fast Track access reducing entrance time to airside by 25 minutes. I killed 5 hours of time in the Skyteam lounges in CPH - they subscribe on two, which give options for lounge changes. Both flights went smooth and timely with full onboard services and chosen favorite seats. Crown lounge at gate 25 in Amsterdam provided shower, breakfast, and tranquility before proceeding to Zurich. Huge legroom in exit seats in both aircrafts; acceptable, minimal catering provided by fresh and friendly staff. Landed 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Perfect, timely announcements in airport and ahead. No IFE and WiFi not really working. Miles to Flying Blue inserted instantly. Extremely cheap ticket lifted up by elite status in the Flying Blue Program. Will fly again.

Air France Economy 8/10​

ZRH-CDG on A220-300 23 Aug. 2024. AF operated flight for Kenya Airways. Accessed the Aspire lounge in Zurich to where AF has moved from the Merhaba next door. Lounge almost acceptable but no frills. Boarding a bit chaotic due to last minute gate change and attempts to organize people in groups which does not really work. AF had to issue new BP for me at gate as the ones I had did not work in their systems. Had huge space onboard in a selected exit seat in 2 x 3 configuration. Service onboard was sandwiches and drinks. FAs were in good mood and well rested. I noticed my luggage outside being broken while loaded from previous flight. Upon arrival in Paris, I retrieved the damaged luggage with some difficulties as it was still in transit for the next 3 ongoing flights on my itinerary. AF ground staff did well to assist me and gave me a brand new, luxury replacement suitcase, upon a bit of struggle. I transferred my items to new bag and re-checked it in again to final destination in Africa. Well done Skyteam and Air France, truly appreciated.

AF hostede op med en ny erstatningskuffert i CDG. Efter 3 timers arbejde fik jeg den aktiveret og checket ind igen paa dens oddysse. Bemaerk AF logoet paa kufferten i nederste venstre hjoerne...

Kenya Airways Business 8/10​

Travelled Paris to Joburg through Nairobi 23-24th August 2024 on B787 and B737, respectively. All flights on time. Checked in with breeze in CDG and went to the excellent lounge in Terminal 2E Hall K. The lounge is very good, despite becoming one of the oldest Skyteam lounges in Paris and is undergoing a soft rehabilitation. The food theme was turkey in various kinds of delicious dishes. Champagnes offered from a wandering trolley with special snacks. New beers and IPAs offered complementing the trivial Heineken. Evening/night flight. Boarding easy, welcome drinks provided, FAs were nice. I always sleep well in KQs B787s and lost my dinner dozing off and woke up only at 03 a.m. Then, I inquired successfully dine-on-demand, and got my preordered, hot seafood meal with a giant salmon starter. We also got breakfast prior to arrival in NBO. Got an amenity kit, though no pajama. Pride lounge in NBO is nice and convenient, spacious with good tarmac views. Had morning shower prior to my next flight to JNB which also left on time. That was a narrowbody without lie-flat seats, but the business class atmosphere was clearly felt throughout, apart from completely lack of flight entertainment. I had welcome champagne and ate and drank as I could and wanted to. Special meals were given; also, other meals were tried out and were deemed good, inclusive a beef dish from economy class. Luggage arrived in Johannesburg without any issues. Had to check it in again on another airline, Rwandair, to Kigali. I rarely have had any negative issues on Kenya Airways and do not recognize the many bad reviews? Catering onboard is generous though maybe not overly extravagant or divine. Crews are always fine, jolly, focused, responsive, and pleasurable. The airline may improve on ground services, communication, and ticket change ability. But once onboard, they are legacy. The trip was on a heavily promoted business class ticket, to which I gladly pay.

Bidwest og alle de andre lounger i Sydafrika har nok de smukkeste buffetdekorationer jeg nogensinde har set. Her en detalje med et ostebord med "haarde" oste. Andre oste paa andre fade...

Rwandair. Business 6/10​

Flew Joburg to Kigali 24th Aug. 2024 on a B337-700. Upgraded an economy ticket to business but did not receive much added value as economy deliver similar, relatively better product, for 30% of price paid for business. Flight was full. The 12 seats in the small business class cabin were nice, but very cramped, hardly a meter between the rows, so at recline no space in front. From window impossible to reach the aisle unless disturbing seatmates. Very noisy aircraft without IFE, WiFi, predeparture drinks, menu card, or amenity kits. Drink list was promising by far too much as reality showed limits. Champagne not offered. Wines were decent. Their widebody aircrafts provide a much better product. FAs were good and caring, but the noisy aircraft prevented good communication. Preordered seafood meal given, but gets the same meal if seated in economy. Announcements in 3 languages barely audible. On time, no luggage issues. Will travel again, but next time in economy class if aircraft turns out to be narrow-bodied.

Rwandairs diskrete, minimalistiske, smukke logoer selv paa en thekop. Farverne er smukke, og maa imponere enhver svensker..?
