Lufthavnstransit i hvs.

1. Vietnam Airlines Eco 7/10
Flew HUI to SGN on 14/10/2018. Flight initially rescheduled 3 weeks earlier giving me stress to a vey narrow timed international connection onwards. However, it was a lucky day: we departed 20 min. early from Hue and arrived 20 min early in SGN. Onboard, they now serve several soft drinks in economy – before only water was provided. Check-in took seconds. Additional luggage accepted. They allowed me to take luggage onboard as I had narrow connection onwards (their fault!). Busgating in both airports (embarking and disembarking) is not funny – an extremely humiliating cost-saving experience to endure to be stoved 50 pax in a bus and then been droved around in blindness. They stuff their busses to maximum capacity and provide no information. Extremely humiliating. All the time that we gained in effeciency from origin and during flight was completely wasted in Saigon where we suffered endless taxiing, stops and unnanounced waiting. I may take the train next time: much more dignity and priceworthy.
2. Malaysian Airlines Economy 07/10
14-15 October 2018 flew SGN-KUL-PNH on two aged B737. Flights completely on time and basically faultless. I would must deduct 3 stars of 10, however:
1 star for poor drink service (not even beer!)
1 star due to old equipment and sockets, tiny screens for IFE
1 star for fooling passengers to check in on-line to waste time at home and in airport
Good space in economy class – especially in the row 5, 17, and 19. Toilets were clean. Special meals ordered were delivered with precision though quality on economy was so-so (hardly edible!). FAs onboard were on top of things and tolerant to those of us who bought and brought a few beers on board purchased from airport. Check-in accepted me for arriving late and were quick to issue “real BP’s”: Don’t waste time on online check-in as the BPs are useless and neither accepted by airline nor immigration! And, to get real BP’s one must still present passport originals etc. What a disaster. What a joke and violence to passengers’ precious time! Elite travelers were respected onboard. Cheap fare, but no miles given in Q-class. Lounges faultless (Apricot 3rd party in SGN and Golden First in KUL) and well equipped. Sleeping facilities. Paid only 191 USD for 4 legs. A good, 4 star airline - for low price when purchased during campaigns. Will fly again.
3. Malaysia Airlines Economy Class 9/10
Travelled PNH-KUL-CGK 29-30 October 2018 on B737-800. IFE worked fine on this newish aircraft. Used my own headphones to enjoy better on a movie I saw. Ticket bought on-line as promotional cheap ticket – less than 200 USD (return) inc. 50 kg of luggage and 2 handluggage (I am Emerald, that adds a bit). PNH-airport: the online check-in boarding passes are not valid by airport authorities so I had to line up check-in physically – what a nuissance! cI dischosed a good seat and rebooked a seat to have a row for myself near the toilets. Checked in online 48 hours before departure. Airport check-in was slow and opened only 2 hours prior departure at 3 counters – not enough time! Passengers are fearing missing their flights and queue up an hour before counters open! Check-in staff very provincial, don’t know major cities in Africa and Europe and fear complex travels. If not put under pressure the check-in staff don’t want to issue BPs and check-in luggage further than next destination. Even if interline agreement exists. Not good enough.
Plaza Premium Lounge in PNH is slowly but steadily falling apart in terms of food and drinks. It used to be very good when it opened 2 years ago but now remains only the nice design, good space and views. The rest is going down in the drain day by day: shrinking food options of poor quality, the big “bakery” is now closed. No champagne, only extremely modest wine offering. Only one local draft beer remains. Disastrous and poor management combined with extreme cost savings on commensurables.
Onboard: The free seats and food selection made online worked. While Hot meals served onboard and special meal (seafood) was delivered smoothly. Inquiries for an additional dish of hot food was met – was lucky to have another fish dish. Golden Lounge in KLIA top notch. Elite status respected but I have never been upgraded – only for their own Enrich Miles elite they give courtesy upgrades. Rate as 10 of 10 but must deduct 1 for no alcohol available. I was almost intoxicated by all those soft drinks. Deduct another point for being cheated to check-in online which is useless theft of passengers time as it has no effect at all when coming to airport. Food could be better but for the accommodation of special meal and very low fare paid I cant complain on that one. Flights on time or earlier. No Luggage issues. All elite flyer priviliges met. A true 4 star airline, closer to 5 star than to 3 star!
4. Sri Lankan Business Class 9/10
Flew CGK-CMB-DXB on 30 October 2018 on A321 and A330-200, respectively. Arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Airlines; checked in online and wasted time as the BPs evt. Said: “This is NOT a boarding pass. Airport Authorities require you obtain a Boarding Pass at the Airport Check–in counter. Counters close 1 hour prior to schedule departure”. Thus, I eventually had to line up in Jakarta where I got BPs from the ordinary check-in desk. In CGK there are no transit counters for Sri Lankan (maybe if you arrive Terminal 2?). I arrived T3 by other OW carrier (MH) and had to proceed to T2 which forced me to leave transit area, get a transit visa, pass immigration, customs, security, collect luggage and go by public transport to T2 as starting a new journey. Check-in opened only 3 hours before departure. Additional time prior to that is just wasted in check-in area. Thus, the Oneworld seamless experience is completely messed up like two alien airlines in two different airports. Check-in eventually was very cooperative except they ask for CC validation – I thought most (all?) airlines have dropped that. The payment for the trip was drawn 6 moths prior to the travel so wonder why they insist on CC-checks. The lounge provided in T2 is Pura Indah, a very stuffy, depressing place with substandard food and no views nor even a single window in the interior. They have no alcoholic drinks apart from 1 brand of cheapest local beer, Anker. Onboard Sri Lankan, as for both legs, I had a top notch experience and caring from fresh, proactive, observant, jolly (flirtatious?), and neat FA’s. Food was excellent and well presented with extensive menu cards and drink lists provided on both legs. Take off champagne good. Wines were casual but 5 brands offered. A wonderful experience in the air. Smooth transit in CMB. Punctual flights. Good IFE entertainment. I think the A321 is excellent for dayflights. The last leg was on A330-200 with nice sleeper seats. Here, four dishes were offered on their menu cards. I could only manage two of them. Both were very tasty. Warmly recommends this airline, very good value for money.Paid three, almost four times less than what I should have paid going by Emirates or Qatar on the same routing
5. RwandAir Business 7/10
Flew A330-200 just over midnight on 30 Oct. 2018 from Dubai-Mombasa-Kigali. Aircraft very well maintained looked brand new. Terrible to make transit transfers in DXB, Had to struggle in the middle of the night with busses from T1 to T2 where there is always check in chaos and no signage nor separation of airlines. Had to insist on lounge access as the check-in counters could not care less about passengers. Was granted access to a sub par lounge in T2 called Marhaba. The bar sections was for smokers also so air was hazy. Poor boarding services: at gate on time but then shuttled around by bus for ages after waiting in the bus for 20 Minutes before it took off. Onboard nice atmosphere, great traditional Rwandan decorated interior in business cabin: FA’s were great and well caring. However, no menu cards nor drink list - sparse supply. Food acceptable and plenty. Champagne and other welcome drinks provided. IFE worked well. Seats very nice and spacious, I slept well. Got dinner at night and got a full breakfast from Mombasa to Kigali. Good airline, though not attached to any alliance. Ticket not cheap, otherwise could have rated 8/10.
