my friend Amol did a good writeup on Scott's blog... I enjoy Avios for last minute short hauls and positioning flights like SAN-LAX

totally agree... I don't recommend them at all, though long-haul envoy class is a decent hard product however, for DCA-LGA or PHX-YVR the avios is a cheap option for travel (not for an experience)

For us fans of One World, here's some decent news. US Airways flights are now bookable online with Avios. The international long-haul flights are not online yet. Avios are great for short-haul awards. US Airways hubs are PHX, CLT, PHL, and DCA

I hope we see one again soon. Fantastic program. If I have a few miles already, I can buy miles for $0.015+$50 by booking an award and buying 60% of the miles at checkout. These price at $0.015/mile. Then call the service center to cancel the award, taxes and fees are refunded less $50...

Well, no, but I book it. Avianca thinks SAW is near Atlanta so it books at the Intra-US award levels. Route through LON or FRA and ditch the last segment (like an award version of hidden city ticketing) Avianca is definitely the new BMI. There are countless tricks for them...

These promo awards continue to go from bad to worse. but.... I for one am stoked about FRA. Definitely going to use lifemiles for LAX-SAW in LH biz, ditch the last segment, and use FB miles home. Score!!
