Chinese carrier Xiamen Airlines yesterday launched its new intercontinental service between Fuzhou and Sydney.
The new service to Sydney from Fuzhou’s Changle International Airport flies three-times weekly - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. A new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner departs Fuzhou at 22.10 and arrives at Sydney Airport at 10.30 the following day. In the opposite direction - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays - flights depart Sydney at 12.00, arriving in Fuzhou at 18.20. Along with the commencement of yesterday’s non-stop service, the airline will introduce its second Australian route - between Xiamen and Sydney - from December 5. This two-times weekly service will also be operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, and will depart Xiamen’s Gaoqi International Airport every Wednesday and Saturday at 22.30, arriving in Sydney at 10.30 the next morning. In the opposite direction - on Thursdays and Sundays - fights will depart from Sydney at 12.00 and land in Xiamen at 18.00 Fuzhou and Xiamen are the two largest cities in Southeast China’s Fujian province. “Xiamen Airlines plans to continue expanding its overseas network while its fleet of Boeing 787-8 aircraft will service international routes. The airline plans to add the more advanced Boeing 787-9 aircraft to the fleet in a move to further expand its global network. It plans to launch non-stop service to Melbourne, Vancouver and New York in 2016, in an effort to build out a network that offers comprehensive coverage of the US, Europe and Australia,” said a press release. Xiamen Airlines, a member of the SkyTeam alliance since 2012, launched a twice-weekly, non-stop service between Xiamen and Amsterdam this summer, marking the opening of the airline's first intercontinental route.
