Thomson Airways has completed the roll out of iPad minis to all of its 2,500 cabin crew - “to better connect the workforce and offer a more personalised service to holidaymakers.”

The update is part of Thomson’s five year vision to change the face of holiday aviation through new state-of-the-art aircraft, more long-haul destinations and innovative on-board product and service concepts. The idea behind equipping the cabin crew with iPads is so they can share destination knowledge with customers, make recommendations and be able to pass on special requests to the resort team on the ground (who were this summer also supplied with new tablets) to celebrations such as birthdays or anniversaries. Feedback from customers and crew during last year’s trial has been extremely positive, with 83% of staff taking part in the trial saying that they felt positively about using iPads as a part of their job. The roll out is part of Thomson’s five-year vision for the holiday airline which also involves new concepts such as family booths (a social seating area for four to six passengers) and duo-seating (three seats adapted to two with a table in the middle), as well as a complimentary drinks service on all long-haul flights.

John Murphy

, Managing Director for Thomson Airways, said: “We’re really committed to delivering our customer promise, which is all about going above and beyond and making travel experiences special, and this includes personalising our service and differentiating the customer experience. This investment in technology is just one of the ways we are empowering our crew to do this and the results we’ve seen from the trial have proved that customers are already starting to see the benefits.”
