In 1960, what is often called the world's first designer hotel opened its doors. It was the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (now the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel) with an interior by famous Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. One room has long since been offered with the original Arne Jacobsen design, room 606. Now Radisson have decided to expand on this with an additional special room, room 506, designed in collaboration with the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon. In room 506, one will be able to try the ‘Drop Chair’, a chair designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 but which never went into production. Aspects of modern design were implemented by Jaime Hayon, which was the idea behind the design of room 506, a room created in the influence of Arne Jacobsen’s designs, with a more modern appearance. - Arne Jacobsen's aesthetics are one of the biggest sources of inspiration for my work, so when I got the opportunity to design his iconic Drop Chair, to have it at my Analog table, I was very honoured. With Room 506 I have had a unique opportunity to walk in his footsteps and make my own contribution to the world's first designer hotel, which is a testament to his design ideas. I am very, very proud to be a part of this, says Jaime Hayon. Room 506 will, like room 606, be available to book for an overnight stay.
