A new survey shows that Nordic Choice Hotels and Radisson Blu Hotels are ranked top when it comes to WiFi in hotels. The website, HotelWifiTest.com, looked at the quality of Internet services each hotel chain offers, as well as how many hotels offer the service for free. Number one spot when to the Scandinavian chain, Nordic Choice Hotels, who offer free WiFi in all its hotels while 85 percent of its hotels offer "Adequate WIFI". This means a download speed of at least 3 Mbps (Netflix's recommendation for SD-streaming) and an upload speed of 500 kbps (Skype’s recommendation for video calls with good quality, but not HD). In second place came Radisson Blu, with 95.2 percent of its hotels offering free WiFi and 69 percent with “Adquate WIFI”. Positions 3 to 5 comprised of Renaissance, Mercure and Ibis/Ibis Styles, respectively Of the 50 hotel chains that participated in the study, Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn had the most hotels which offered free WiFi, but only a small percentage had an acceptable quality. Of the American chains, Marriott came in highest, followed by Westin and Hyatt. In Asia, InterContinental was top, followed by Oberio Hotels & Resorts and Marriott Hotels & Resorts.
