Hotel chain Starwood are now offering members the opportunity to check in via the new SPG app, have a room assigned (including upgrade), and head straight to the room without the need to deal with any hotel staff. The room door then opens via the smartphone app.
Ten hotels have already introduced the new system, called SPG Keyless, and there are many more to come. By early next year, 30,000 hotel rooms in 150 hotels worldwide will have the system in place, including the hotel chains Aloft, Element, and W Hotels. To use the app you must be a SPG member and book the hotel through one of Starwood channels: the hotel's website, SPG.com, or through the SPG app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6yb2TprJkc 24 hours prior to arriving at the hotel you will receive a push notification with your room number. You can then go directly to your room and by holding the phone to the door with the SPG app open, the door will unlock. Swedish company Assa Abloy are the suppliers of the system, which utilises Bluetooth and has special security software built into the app. If you are a already an SPG member, you have the ability to enable SPG Keyless on your mobile today.
