Just a couple of days ago Etihad launched their new premium products. There has been a lot of focus on the first class flat "The Residence", a very impressive product, but there were also many other news, among them the excellent first class suite "First Apartment" which will be on the Airbus A380, the broadest suite in flight industry. And today, we here at BusinessClass can release some more unique pictures of "First Apartment".

Etihad First Apartment

The World's Widest First Class Suite

The most unique thing about First Apartment might be the width, as it's estimated to be the widest first class suite in the industry. Airbus A380 will have First Apartment at the upper front of the aeroplane, but different from other airlines it will be a 1-1 configuration, so there is only one aisle. There are usually two aisles. There will be nine First Apartment suites on every Airbus A380. Every suite has a space corresponding to 3.6 square metres, which is 74 per cent more space than with

Etihad's current first class suite

. The interior of First Apartment is built up around three colours - chocolate, cashmere, and coffee, every one of them with its own different variations.

The seat in Etihad First Apartment The other unique thing is that the seat and the bed are separate from each other - with most airlines you sleep in the seat, even in first class. One exception to this is Lufthansa, as they have a separate bed next to the seat on some of their first class trips with Boeing 747 aeroplanes. Another exception is Singapore Airlines, with their Suites class where a separate bed is stored behind a window where it can be taken out and placed above the seat over the night.

The bed is situated right in front of the seat and is placed on the side in the suite, which is entirely unique for the industry. That means that when you're lying in bed you fly on the side. During daytime the bed can be folded into a lounge sofa in beige leather (Etihad themselves call it a footstool). The footstool is folded towards the suite's little pathway and is made into a 204.5 cm long and 66 cm wide bed with a mattress, sheets, and a pillow. Just like today you also get a pyjamas. The footstool itself can of course be used for sitting in the daytime, for example if you get visitors in the lounge. It is made from high quality Poltrona Frau leather, the same type which is used in Ferrari cars.

The television can be slanted forward and the remote control is on the side Even the seat itself can be slanted if you wish to rest a little but not truly sleep. The side of the seat has an adjustment control with both different modes and the chance of determining a suiting position by yourself.

Nice design in three base colours The suite's table can be folded, with 48x58 cm of size. If there are two people eating together you can fold it to be 60x66 cm.

24'' HD-TV

There is a large 24'' HD-TV in front of the seat, featuring Etihad's latest entertainment system of the Panasonic eX3 variety, with over 750 hours of entertainment. The special thing with the TV in First Apartment is that you can adjust it and slant it 90 degrees, so that you can lie in bed and watch telly.

24'' television The entertainment system is controlled with a new type of remote control, which is touch screen with menus that show up directly on the screen of the remote control.

Interactive remote control for the entertainment system The new Airbus A380 will also offer wireless internet and the chance to get a mobile connection. The suite also has has wall sockets for electricity.

Closet, mini bar, and bathroom cabinet

Every suite has its own bathroom cabinet with mirrors, storage, and skincare products so that you get a chance to get yourself ready before landing. There is also a big cabinet for your own belongings under the mirror. Just like with "The Residence" there's also the chance for first class passengers in First Apartment to shower on board, but unlike The Residence it is a shared shower. Every passenger gets four minutes of water. The bathroom also has shower products, a hair dryer and a mirror.

Good lighting The suite is secluded from the aisle with the use of closable doors. The doors are 162 cm tall. As opposed to with for example Emirates the doors aren't electric but can instead be opened and closed manually.

Closable doors Every suite also has a private closet where you can put your clothes over night. There are also additional storage possibilities under the footstool in the suite.

Private closet The suite also offers a private mini bar with special functionality ensuring that the drinks are kept cold for up to 15 hours.

The Lobby

Passengers in First Apartment also have access to "The Lobby", a lounge and bar area on board, situated on the upper floor between first class and business class. The Lobby offers a large leather sofa and a television with the chance to relax with something to drink or to enjoy yourself with other passengers. The virgin flight with the new First Apartment will leave in December, and the first trip will probably be between Abu Dhabi and London.
