Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is set for a huge expansion following a deal with Jaber LEGT Engineering and Contracting LLC .
Phase one of the project will see the expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building at the airport increase from 66,107 square metres to 145,926 square metres by June 2017. Following additional planned extensions, it is expected that the airport will handle up to 26.5 million passengers per year by 2025 - it is currently capable of handling about 5 million passengers a year. Dubai is rapidly growing as a major international hub for air travel, with the city’s main airport, Dubai International Airport (DXB), recently
(also carried out by ALEC) that increases its passenger capacity from 75 million to 90 million. It is hoped that the expansion plans for Al Maktoum International Airport will relieve some of the pressure on DXB.
Dubai Airport’s new Concourse D As part of the proposed expansion work, the arrival building - which houses a public hall for arrivals, baggage claim and related services - will feature a new immigration hall for 55 control counters, visa and passenger utilities, as well as a new baggage screening area.
