For over ten years, Lufthansa's first class passengers have met with the famous yellow Lufthansa duck while visiting the first class terminal in Frankfurt, a detail that has become very popular and as a result, the ducks have become sought-after collectibles. The duck has also changed uniforms several times. This year, the first class duck has a new look. In conjunction with the World Cup in Brazil, it has a green dress and comes holding a football under his arm. “I’ve slipped into many costumes during my long career as a Lufthansa mascot, but the green jersey is one of my highlights. As a big football fan, there’s no chance I’ll miss a single match!”,

the duck said confidently in a press release.

Jörg Holtschneider, head of Lufthansa's first-class services in Frankfurt, says that the duck came about as a fun novelty when the terminal opened. They wanted to find something different to match the sophisticated atmosphere of the rest of the terminal. The staff could never have imagined that the duck would create so much hype. Over the years, there has also been around 25 special editions of the duck, including a duck in the traditional "dirndl" during Oktoberfest as well as a spa duck with a face mask and cucumber covering its eyes.
