Last week, Hilton Worldwide introduced Digital Key, a new feature of the Hilton HHonors app that gives members of Hitlon’s loyalty program the option to bypass the hotel check-in and access their room via a “virtual unlock button” on their smartphone.

By early 2016, frequent guests will be able to access rooms digitally in over 4,100 properties world-wide, including hotels within the following brands; Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Canopy by Hilton.

Digital Key Digital check-in was launched last month, as an industry first, and more than 5 million guests have since checked-in through the feature. Benefits of booking your room via the app, Hilton.com, the Hilton reservations call centre or via Hilton's corporate travel partners include, in addition to digital check-in, the option to select your room from a floor plan during digital check-in, Digital Key, and the chance to request amenities such as pillows and snacks.

Digital Check-in

Geraldine Calpin, senior vice president and global head of Digital, Hilton Worldwide

, said: "HHonors members can use digital check-in and room selection at more than 4,100 properties globally - and those who have used it have shared exceptional feedback. With Digital Key, we are making the guest experience even more seamless through our improved mobile app."

Room Select Testing started earlier this month and the feature is now available on the iOS platform and, later this year, Android. Diamond, Gold and Silver HHonors members who use the Digital Key this year at beta hotels will receive 2,500 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points. Calpin continued: “Through our app, we're giving HHonors members the ability to better control and personalise their stay with us. Imagine if an HHonors member is arriving at our hotel after a long trip or running late to a meeting, Digital Key can provide our frequent guests the added benefit of going straight to their room without stopping at the front desk."
