We all know how stressful flying can be; endless queues, delayed flights, screaming children. That is why Frankfurt Airport has opened two designated yoga rooms for travellers to unwind, de-stress and limber up before or after their flight.

The quiet and comfortable rooms can be found in Terminal 1 past the security checkpoint near gates C14 and C16, and in Terminal 2 past the passport checkpoint near gates D1 to D4. The rooms are open around the clock and can be enjoyed free of charge by anyone.

Instructions are taught via videos on screens in the rooms. There are also flyers with instructions on how to properly do exercises. Frankfurt is not the first airport to offer a practice space for yoga; San Francisco International Airport opened the world's first airport yoga room in 2012 and the idea quickly caught on in the US. In Europe, Helsinki Airport was the first to open a space for yoga to be practiced - also offering mediation and pilates exercises. In 2014, London’s Heathrow opened a yoga room. It was initially meant to be a two month pop-up studio, but proved so popular that it was made permanent. It can be accessed through the SkyTeam Lounge in Terminal 4. With the many health dangers of flying now coming to light in mainstream media; poor air quality, radiation, disrupted circadian rhythms, etc, yoga could be one way of mitigating the detrimental effects of air travel, or at least make it a bit less stressful.
