In June 2014, doors will open to Star Alliance’s new home at London Heathrow terminal 2, where all airlines in the Star Alliance will eventually be gathered. SAS will move there in September. Now the first images have arrived of United's Lounge in terminal 2, one of eight lounges in the terminal and the first one that will open to the public.
United will operate two lounges in terminal 2, a business lounge (United Club) and a first class lounge (United Global First Lounge). Both will be located in the satellite concourse of terminal 2, which is accessed from the check-in area and the large duty free area via a tunnel. However, it is possible to go back and forth between the main terminal and the satellite concourse and thus use the lounges in the satellite pier even if your flight departs from the main terminal, provided you have enough time of course. In total, the two lounges occupy 2,043 square metres and offer panoramic windows facing the airport, a rather luxurious interior and vintage aviation-themed artwork. Both lounges will provide complimentary food and drink (including alcohol) and wireless internet. The layout and furnishing has been chosen to promote both relaxation and ease of working in the lounge. There will be, for example, plenty of electrical sockets. You will also find eight wash\shower rooms in both the lounges. The first class lounge, United Global First Lounge, will have a tea room built around a large Big Ben-like clock. Other facilities include a buffet area, a wine room, private phone booths, and a quiet area with reclining chairs and drapes for additional privacy. The business lounge, United Club, is the first lounge outside the U.S. with the new United Club design. The lounge will have space for 280 guests and offer facilities like a full service bar with seating for 25 guests, two buffet areas, a TV lounge and seven phone booths . United Club will be available for passengers in business class and Star Alliance Gold members while United Global First Lounge will be available for first class passengers. As with other Star Alliance lounges, entry rules apply for other airlines in the Star Alliance, for example, if you hold a boarding pass for same day travel with SAS. In Terminal 2, there will also be an arrivals lounge available to passengers who arrived in United business class or first class. The lounges will open June 4, 2014, the same day that United becomes the first airline to move into the new terminal 2. In total, United have 17 flights a day from Heathrow to six destinations in the U.S.
