Etihad Airways has launched a new route to the Moroccan capital of Rabat, its second destination in Morocco.

The inaugural flight to Rabat from Abu Dhabi touched down last week to a traditional water cannon salute and a welcoming ceremony featuring VIP guests, including Morocco’s Minister of Tourism Lahcen Haddad, and the UAE Ambassador to Morocco, Al Asri Saeed Al Dhaheri. A three-class Airbus A340-500 - with 12 First Class seats, 28 Business and 200 Economy - will operate the route twice-weekly, complementing Etihad’s existing daily service to Casablanca, located just to the south of Rabat. The new Rabat route becomes the only direct service between the two Arabian capital cities. “Rabat is a historical city that has grown in appeal for business and leisure travellers. With our new service, we are supporting further growth flying in travellers from across our international network to our newest gateway in Morocco. Likewise, we are facilitating ease of travel from Rabat to Abu Dhabi and beyond to the many cities we serve,” said James Hogan, Etihad Airways President and Chief Executive Officer. Flight EY615 departs from Abu Dhabi on Wednesdays and Fridays 10:00, arriving in Rabat at 15:15 the same day. In the opposite direction, flight EY616 leaves Rabat at 20.00, reaching Abu Dhabi at 07.25 the following day.
