On September 14, Etihad Airways will introduce a new fare structure to “provide passengers more choice and clarity when booking flights.”

The national airline of the United Arab Emirates will implement a total of eight new ‘Fare Choices’, allowing travellers to tailor their bookings to their individual needs. The ‘Fare Choices’ offer different options of baggage allowance, flexibility and benefits. Additionally, a more standardised baggage allowance structure will be applied across Etihad Airways’ partner network in a bid to better align Etihad Airways with its partner airlines. As part of the new structure, the cost of excess baggage will be cut on most fares, up to 90% on some.

Economy Class

has been broken down into Economy Breaking Deals, Economy Saver, Economy Value and Economy Freedom. Economy Breaking Deals will be the airline’s lowest fare and includes one checked bag of up to 23kg and 25% Etihad Miles. Economy Freedom is Etihad's premium economy option and features two checked bags of up to 23kg each, 100% Etihad miles, priority check-in and free amendments and cancellation of tickets.

Business Class

breaks down to Business Breaking Deals, Business Saver and Business Freedom. Business Breaking Deals includes 115% Etihad Guest Miles, Premium check-in and lounge access. Business Freedom is the most comprehensive business class fare and additionally includes 175% Etihad Guest Miles, free date changes and cancellation, as well as an Etihad Chauffeur.

Peter Baumgartner

, Chief Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, said: “Ultimately, this is about providing choice. In most industries there is a move towards allowing customers to tailor and customise their experience, and ours is no different. When it comes to booking a flight, not everyone’s needs are the same. Some guests want to travel light and on a budget, whilst others want to be able to make last-minute travel decisions, carry extra baggage or earn more miles. For example, if a guest wants more flexibility, more luggage, and priority check in, they can select our Economy Freedom Fare Choice.”
