Dubai International's new Concourse D given seal of approval

The milestone trial, which follows months of comprehensive trials and tests, saw some 2,000 volunteers including men, women, children, senior citizens and individuals with special needs play the role of passengers arriving at, departing from and transiting through Concourse D. The participants tested the way-finding signage and simulated passenger flow through the new £200 million building in a bid to determine the readiness of staff, systems and processes at the new facility.

Concourse D at DXB The positive result paves the way for opening of the new concourse, which is designed to meet the needs of the 70 plus international airlines at DXB’s newly renovated Terminal 1. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said: “I would like to thank all the volunteers for taking time out on their weekend and bringing their families along to help us get the new concourse ready for opening."

It’s a facility designed around the needs and comfort our customers, who will surely notice and appreciate the short walking distances to boarding gates, and the accessible layout of a wide variety of world class food and retail offerings.” Concourse D will increase DXB’s annual capacity from 75 million to 90 million passengers, enabling the world’s number one hub for international passengers to accommodate the ongoing rapid growth in traffic, the airport's operator Dubai Airports said.
