From May 4, 2016, British Airways will begin a direct service from London Gatwick to Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport. The service will become the only direct service between the two capital cities and the first air-link between the UK and Lima since 1982.
Lima is becoming an increasingly important business destination, while Peru itself has seen an explosion of tourists over the last few decades with The Unesco World Heritage site of Machu Picchu now attracting around 1.2 million tourists a year. BA will deploy a three-cabin Boeing 777 on the route, with prices starting from £765 in World Traveller, £1,185 in World Traveller Plus and £2,549 in Club World. The flight takes about 12 hours and 30 minutes. Flights will depart from London Gatwick throughout the summer on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From October 30 next year, the service will be reduced to twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Lynne Embleton, BA's managing director at Gatwick,
said: “With the world-famous Inca Trail and the incredible citadel of Machu Picchu, there’s nowhere quite like Peru. Lima is a fantastic gateway to some of the most dramatic places to visit in South America and will also provide a new link for British business seeking to invest in Peru’s growing market.”
