British Airways launches direct flights to New York from Gatwick Airport
British Airways has announced it is launching direct flights to New York from Gatwick Airport next year.
From May 1, 2016, British Airways will become only the second airline, after Norwegian, to fly direct to New York from Gatwick, providing a convenient alternative for those in the south east who do not fancy the long-winded trip to Heathrow. Daily flights will depart Gatwick at 16.40 and arrive in New york’s JFK at 19.30. In the opposite direction, flights will depart New York at 20.00, arriving in London at 10.10 the next day. BA, who previously operated the route between 1988 and 2002 and from 2008 to 2009, will deploy a three-class B777-200 on the daily route, with 40 seats in Club World (business), 24 in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and 216 in World Traveller (economy). The new route means BA is the only airline to offer flights to New York from all three of London’s main airports – Gatwick, Heathrow and London City.

The flight will offer fantastic connections to our extensive network of short-haul flights to 112 destinations across Europe. The new route also complements our almost hourly service from Heathrow, thanks to our transatlantic Joint Business with American Airlines. Customers can choose from 13 daily British Airways flights and another three on American Airlines to New York, as well as our double-daily business class only service from London City.” Tickets start from around £400 return. BA has also announced three new European routes from Heathrow for next summer: Biarritz in France, Mahon in Menorca, and Palermo in Sicily. The airline will fly twice a week to Biarritz and four times a week to Menorca from April 29, while a daily flight to Palermo will commence from May 2.
